English to Japanese book translation
AI translation, checked passage by passage. Upload your book — epub, mobi, fb2, docx, txt or pdf — and see the exact price and a free translated sample of your own book before you pay anything. Every passage is translated, then read again against your original, and translated again wherever that check finds a problem.
Your translation comes back as an epub, the most stable format. Word, Kindle and PDF are available at download.
Seeing it before you pay
We have not yet published a translated classic for this pair. What you get instead is better for deciding: upload your book and we translate a passage from the middle of it, free, with the report of what the second reading changed. You judge our Japanese on your own book. If you want to see the shape of the output first, these pairs show a translated classic beside its original: English to Russian · Russian to English · English to Spanish.
What a faithful Japanese edition must get right
Japanese is written without spaces between words, so the book is measured and quoted in characters rather than words.
Speech is set in 「」, and 。 、 replace the full stop and comma. The mix of kanji, hiragana and katakana for the same word is a real choice, and it is made once for the book.
How characters address each other — plain, polite, or honorific, and whether -san and -sama are used at all — has to be decided per pair of characters and held for the whole book. Japanese makes that choice in every sentence, where English makes it in almost none.
Before translation starts, we build a translator's brief from your whole book: names, terms, tone, typography. You read it and can change it. The brief then guides every chapter. Each passage is read again, independently, against your original, and translated again where that check finds a problem. The finished book gets one whole-book read for continuity. Every change goes into your quality report.
