Why a range and not one price
The price depends on both languages, not only on the word count. A German word is longer than an English one, and Russian or Chinese need a different number of tokens to write. So the same novel really does cost less into one language than into another. The ranges above span every pair that has a page here (16 of them), so they are wide on purpose — each pair page shows its own example price, and your own quote is one number, counted from your file.Standard or Premium
Same process, different AI model: Premium uses the stronger and more expensive one. Standard is enough for non-fiction and simple prose. Premium is worth paying for literary fiction, poetry, and any book where the style matters as much as the meaning. Word counts from a shop page are only rough, and books differ in ways that change the real cost: front matter, notes, chapters that are mostly images. So we open your book, count every word, and quote from that. If the translation costs us more than we quoted, we pay the difference.Where the human price comes from, and what it is not
CA$0.25 per word is the recommended minimum for prose set by the Literary Translators' Association of Canada (their 2026–27 rates). It pays a person to read your book and write it again in their own language. We are not that, and we will not pretend to be: this is AI translation, where every passage is re-read against your original and corrected.
